CHICO - Freshmen Mackenzie Doty and Cari Hachmann each scored for the second time this season as the Wildcats beat Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-0 Friday night at University Soccer Stadium.
The win was Chico State's fourth straight. During that span, the Wildcats have outscored their opponents12-1, and at least one freshman has played a part in seven of those scores.
The Wildcats are 4-1-2 overall and 4-0-0 in the CCAA, while Cal State Dominguez Hills fell to 2-6-0 and 1-3-0 in the CCAA.
Doty had to beat the clock and Cal State Dominguez Hills goalkeeper Ashley De Alejandro to open the scoring. She took a pass from Abbey Stretch and buried it in the near upper-V with one second remaining on the first-half clock.
Ali Sward and Hachmann combined to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute. Stretch actually got things started with a nice pass that hit Sward in stride near midfield. Sward then beat a defender and sliced a pass into the box to the feet of Hachmann, who beat a defender to the outside before cutting back in and beating De Alejandro near post.
Wildcats goalkeeper Kari Gonzales made two saves, including a magnificent diving stop late in the match, to preserve her fifth shutout of the season. The victory was the 18th of her career, tying her with Angela Orr (2002-03) for the third most in Chico State history.
The Toros continue their northern swing with a Sunday match at Cal State Stanislaus.
