SEATTLE (Aug. 29) – Sarah Martinez gathered a loose ball and scored to the left post for the game winning goal, as the No. 2-ranked Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team closed out its season opening home stand with a 3-1 win over No. 19 Cal State Dominguez Hills in a non-conference women's soccer match Tuesday night at Interbay Stadium.

With the victory, Seattle Pacific (3-0) extended its regular season unbeaten streak to 60 games. Cal State Dominguez Hills dropped to 0-2.

Martinez snatched a ball from several Toro defenders just inside the 18 yard line, and ripped a shot to the upper right corner of the net 4:13 into the match for her second goal of the season. The junior forward leads SPU in total points with five.

Twenty minutes later, the Falcons struck again – on their second shot of the match - when Martinez parlayed a low cross from the corner to Shannon Oakes. Oakes finished her run from midfield with a blank to the left corner. Meredith Teague was also credited with an assist on the play (24:17).

Kayla Steigemeier rounded out scoring for Seattle Pacific with her first collegiate goal at 64:17 on a 40-yard romp down the center of the field.

Toro keeper Ashley De Alejandro registered five saves in the match while Seattle Pacific keeper Katie Ruggles tallied four. SPU held an 11-8 advantage in shots.
