Toros Storm Back from Seven-Run, Eighth Inning Deficit to Post 13-11 Baseball Win in Seaside

Seaside, Calif. - The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team (16-10 CCAA, 27-16) put on its rally cap in a big way with a 13-11 win over Cal State Monterey Bay (6-26 CCAA, 15-36) Sunday afternoon. The Toros had trailed 11-4 heading into the eighth inning.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Cal State Monterey Bay trailed 4-3. Daniel Gomez singled and stole second. Budd Glock singled through the left side to score Gomez. Ross Hoffmann slugged a two-run shot to make it 6-4.

In the seventh inning, Gerry Rommel led off with a triple to center field. Glock ripped a double down the left field line to score Rommel. Nick Zaballos crushed a home run to right center field to make it 9-4. Hoffmann doubled, Gabe Chase was hit by a pitch and both advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt. Back-to-back singles pushed Hoffmann and Chase across the plate to make it 11-4.

Cal State Dominguez Hills came back to score five runs in the top of the eighth. They picked up one in the top of the ninth before Jason Klug hit a three-run home run to complete the comeback. The Toros got the Otters to go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth.

Glock gave up eight hits, five runs with two earned and struck out four batters in seven innings for no decision. Hoffmann was 3-for-5, scored two runs and drove in three runs, Troy Sanchez was 3-for-5, Glock was 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in three runs while Zaballos was 2-for-4, scored two runs and drove in three runs.

CSUDH finishes the regular season with games against Cal Poly Pomona. Thursday and Friday contests will be in Pomona, and the teams play a noon doubleheader Saturday in Carson.
