Seaside, Calif. - Cal State Dominguez Hills (13-10 CCAA, 24-16) out slugged Cal State Monterey Bay (6-23 CCAA, 15-33) Friday afternoon in a CCAA baseball game and came away with a 14-9 win.
Cal State Dominguez Hills jumped out to a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third. With two outs, the Otters' Budd Glock drew a walk. Nick Zaballos then crushed the ball over the right center field fence to make it 5-4.
CSUDH picked up a run in the fourth inning to make it 6-4. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Daniel Gomez singled up the middle to score Matt Ralls. Gerry Rommel then laced a double to right center field to score Gomez and tie the game up.
Cal State Monterey Bay was hanging tough down 10-7 heading into the ninth inning. The Toros scored four runs including a three-run blast by Mateo Marquez to seal the game. In the bottom of the ninth, Zaballos hit his second two-run home run of the game.
Jason Garcia gave up eight hits, six runs with four earned and struck out five batters in six innings to move to 4-2. Jason Klug was 3-for-5 and scored two runs while Marquez was 4-for-6, scored three runs and drove in three runs.
Michael Trump gave up four hits, two runs with neither earned and struck out five batters in four innings to drop to 0-1 on the season. Rommel was 3-for-5, scored two runs and drove in two runs, Glock was 3-for-3, scored two runs and drove in one run and Zaballos was 3-for-4, scored two runs and drove in five runs.
These same teams play a doubleheader Saturday with the first game scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
