SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State Dominguez Hills, the nation's 10th-ranked softball team in NCAA Division II, scored the first nine runs Friday en route to a 13-6 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over Cal State San Bernardino.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out.

Cal State Dominguez Hills pounded out 13 hits off four Coyotes pitchers. Kate Groden hit a three-run homer in the first off CSUSB starter and loser Rozz Rios (6-13) and Kristine Minter slugged a grand slam homer in the fifth off Coyotes reliever Katie Adkins.

Groden finished with three hits in three at bats and six RBI while Pebble Prestwood went two-for-four and Natalie Greco was two-for-three for the Toros. Minter picked up the win in relief (12-0), throwing 3.1 innings of no-hit ball.

The Coyotes managed just five hits against the combined efforts of Miller and Minter but scored all six runs in the fourth inning, four of them coming on a grand slam homer by Melissa Rodriguez, her third home run of the season.
