LOS ANGELES -- Jontae Vinson had 19 points and nine rebounds and Ralph Turner Jr. hit 4-of-7 from beyond the arc as Cal State L.A. knocked off crosstown-rival Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night in the Eagles Nest, 64-62.

With the win, Cal State L.A. sweeps the season series from the Toros. Both teams now stand 8-12 overall and 5-8 in CCAA play.

The first half was tight the entire way as the teams would be tied six times and trade the lead 13 times in the opening 20 minutes. Cal State L.A.'s largest lead of the first half -- four points -- came with 8:37 left in the period as a Vinson free throw put the Golden Eagles up 21-17. CSUDH would never lead by more than two points, but a Shamont Brown jumper in the waning seconds of the half sent the visiting Toros into the locker room with a 30-28 lead.

CSUDH opened up a six-point lead at 37-31 before Cal State L.A. put on a 14-0 run over the next three minutes, getting three-pointers by Robert Reynaga and Turner to tie the game and then jumpers from four different players as the Golden Eagles took a 45-37 lead with 13:06 left in the game.

Cal State L.A. would never trail the rest of the way, although the Toros clawed back into the game late, cutting the margin to just one point at 61-60 with 1:07 to go. Neither team would score from the floor on their next possession, forcing CSUDH to foul. Reynaga hit a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left to give CSULA a three-point lead.

CSUDH's Carlos Rivers got a layup with seven seconds left to get the Toros back within a point at 63-62. CSULA senior Gene Myvett was fouled and would make 1-of-2 free throws as the Golden Eagles took a 64-62 lead. CSUDH had several attempts at a tying basket in the waning seconds, but could not get the ball to fall as Cal State L.A. picked up the win.

Vinson paced CSULA with his 19 points and nine boards while Turner scored 12 points in 30 minutes off the bench. Reynaga added 11 points and four assists in the win.

CSUDH was paced by Brown with a game-high 23 points. As a team, CSUDH shot 49 percent from the floor compared to CSULA's 41 percent, but the Golden Eagles forced 18 Toro turnovers in the victory.
