PHOENIX---Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-6) broke out the bats with 15 hits as Grand Canyon University (5-6) gave up five unearned runs leading to the Toros 9-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Brazell Stadium.

The Toros jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the third inning due in a large part to four unearned runs yielded by 'Lopes starter Raul Rojas. Houston Hernandez reached first base on an error by GCU second baseman Josh Melum which started the rough inning. With two outs Rojas walked in a run to make the score 4-0. Steve Lux came in relief of Rojas walking the first batter he faced to make it a 5-0 game. Lux got Hernandez who started the inning to then fly out to left field to end the threat.

Isidro Perez paced the 15 hit attack for the Toros going 4 for 6 with three runs scored. Dustin Hicks chipped in three hits and two RBI. CSUDH starter Chris Borchers struck out eight 'Lopes over 6.0 innings picking up his first win of the season to move his record to (1-1). Gary Scott came in relief to close out the last 3.0 innings to pick up the save.

GCU managed three runs over their next three at bats but it wasn't enough. Matt Henne and Giancarlo Silvestri each collected two hits and an RBI apiece for GCU in the loss. Rojas went 2.2 innings surrendering five runs (one earned) picking up his first loss of the season.

The Toros return home for their next games, entertaining cross-town rival Cal State L.A. on Thursday and Friday. Both are single games starting at 2 p.m.
