TURLOCK, Calif.—It was the eruption of over 1,200 announced fans at Warrior Arena that drowned out the buzzer as Kavin Young tipped in an unbelievable full-court pass for the winning basket with one-tenth of a second left to give the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball team a 92-90 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate Athletic Association action Saturday.
Facing the team's second overtime game in as many days, the Warriors (11-12, 8-8 CCAA) had just one second to transition the floor for the win, or face overtime.
Senior Joel Stallworth launched the ball the length of the court and found Young going one-on-one with a Toro defender, grabbing the ball and laying up a soft shot as the buzzer sounded.
The Warriors led by three entering the final minute of play, but the Toros (9-14, 6-10 CCAA) rallied back and hit a three-pointer with a second left to knot the game 90-90 and seemed to force overtime until Young's amazing basket.
Stanislaus had a balanced attack with five players in double figure scoring led by Cameron Quicks 14. Young and Marcus Martinez each tallied 13 and Stallworth and Richard Maraker each had 11.
Shamont Brown led all scorers with 22 points including the game tying three-pointer. Nonso Nibo had 16, Carlos Rivers 14 and Durwin Williams had 11 points to go with 10 rebounds.
The Toros have a homestand coming up next weekend with Cal State San Bernardino visiting Friday and UC San Diego calling on Saturday.
