SAN BERNARDINO -- Defending CCAA champion Cal State Dominguez Hills, ranked No. 12 in the nation and No. 2 in the Far West Region, scored a goal with less than four minutes remaining Saturday to defeat Cal State San Bernardino, 2-1, in a CCAA women's soccer match at Coyotes Premier Field.
The Toros, 6-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the CCAA, got the match-deciding goal from freshman forward Kristen Boskovich in the 86th minute -- a blast inside the near post after a nice feed from Corrie Hirokawa. It was Boskovich's fourth goal of the season.
Earlier in the second half, the Coyotes had tied the score 1-1 on a 20-yard shot by freshman Terina Dillon who collected a clear out from near the goal and delivered a shot into the far corner of the net.
Dillon could have scored in the first half as she broke free from a defender, but her shot past the goalkeeper sailed just wide of the goal. Two other Coyotes scoring attempts caromed back into play off the goal post and were cleared away.
The Toros opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the match when leading scorer Rachele McDonald was fouled inside the penalty area by Coyotes goalkeeper Leslie Rhodes who had come off her line to challenge McDonald. McDonald converted the penalty kick for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The loss dropped the Coyotes to 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in the CCAA.
Both Cal State Dominguez Hills soccer teams take the field again Monday in home matches with Grand Canyon. The men's play begins at 12:30 p.m., followed by the women at 3:00 p.m.
