Box Score

POMONA The Broncos and Toros, two of the premier women's programs in the conference, played a match you would expect from teams with their histories. Both teams battled on even terms through 110 minutes of action.

The Broncos got a second-half goal from Chiharu Uchimura and tied Cal State Dominguez Hills, 1-1, Tuesday at Kellogg Field. Cal Poly Pomona (1-4-1, 0-0-1) ended a string of non-conference losses to Western Washington, Seattle Pacific and Concordia.

The Toros (4-1-1, 0-0-1) struck first, scoring just 1:13 into the game. Rachele McDonald did the scoring honors, shooting a close-range shot past Cal Poly Pomona goalie Vanessa Richardson. A cross from Michelle Sena started the scoring play and Corrie Hirokawa got the ball in perfect position for McDonald, who did the rest.

The Broncos, after weathering the fast start by the Toros, began to pick up scoring chances of their own. Erica Rodriguez had the best chance in the opening half, but her shot past Cal State Dominguez Hills goalie Lisa Agramonte hit the right post and stayed out.

Cal Poly Pomona finally got the tying goal on a direct kick from Chiharu Uchimura that split the Cal State Dominguez Hills wall and sailed into the net from about 20 yards out. It was Uchimura's first goal of the season and only the third for the Broncos.

Cal Poly Pomona had three solid chances in the first overtime period, but Agramonte made two of her eight saves in the game to keep the contest even. Each goalie made two saves in the second overtime period.

Richardson had five saves for Cal Poly Pomona.

The Broncos finished with a 14-11 advantage in shots. The game was a physical one, with a combined 48 fouls called, including three yellow cards.

Cal State Dominguez Hills will return to action on Sunday with a road game at Cal State Monterey Bay.
