POMONA Cal Poly Pomona's men's soccer team played their most solid game of the season and beat Cal State Dominguez Hills, 1-0, Tuesday night at Kellogg Field. Cal Poly Pomona (2-2-2, 1-0) beat the Toros for the first time since 1998, a stretch that covered nine games.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-1, 0-1) lost for the first time in five matches this season.

The game was a physical contest with a total of 52 fouls, 11 yellow cards and one red card issued. The Toros had an 11-7 edge in shots, but Cal Poly Pomona goalie Tim Sisk had another outstanding game in goal. Sisk made eight saves, including back-to-back dazzling stops of point-blank shots by Cal State Dominguez Hills Jesse Graham.

Sisk was injured late in the game and Thomas Ryan finished up in goal for the Broncos, playing the final four minutes.

Kyle Polak also played a strong game in goal for the Toros, making three saves.

The game was evenly played throughout with scoring chances few and far between. Graham had the best chances in the first half of play, but Sisk was able to make two key saves.

The Broncos also had a solid chance in the first half, but a header by Dawit Berhanu sailed just wide of the goal.

Cal Poly Pomona got the better of it midway through the second half and finally put in what would be the only goal of the game.

Berhanu got the ball to Armando Galvan. Galvan took a shot that deflected off a defenders foot and into the Cal State Dominguez Hills goal.

It was Galvans team-leading third goal of the season.

After falling behind, the Toros began applying the pressure and had a handful of scoring chances. The best came when Sammy Rivas rifled a shot toward the goal that Sisk made a diving save of to keep the shutout.

Sisk was injured while making a save in a late flurry in front of the Bronco goal. Ryan came on and finished the combined shutout.
