Box Score

Carson, CA -- Visiting Chico State used a .301 to .086 hitting advantage to take the first game of the two-game series against Cal State Dominguez Hills, besting the Toros 30-26, 30-19, 30-22 this afternoon in the Torodome. With the loss, CSUDH drops to 3-4, 0-2 CCAA, while CSUC improves to 6-4, 1-1 CCAA.

Wildcat Lindsay Macias was the story in game one, hammering six kills to lead Chico State to the 30-26 win. After a Courtney Spainhour (Redondo Beach, CA/El Camino CC) kill brought the Toros to within 15-14, the Wildcats outscored the Toros 9-1 over the next 10 points to take a commanding 24-15 lead.

CSUDH would fight back to within 25-23 on an Amber Chauff (Westchester, CA/St. Monica HS) ace, but CSUC would take five of the next nine points to walk away with the game one win. Game two saw more of the same as CSUC blistered on the offensive end, outhitting CSUDH .441 to .065. In that frame, Macias was at it again, connecting for seven kills on nine swings as CSUC jumped out to a 15-3 lead.

Despite three kills by Denise Herrera (El Monte, CA/ELAC), the Toros would get no closer than six points the rest of the frame as the Wildcats would run away with game two, 30-19.

After intermission, the Wildcats looked to put CSUDH away early, taking a 9-2 lead on a Toro attack error. CSUDH, however, would mount a comeback, narrowing the margin to 9-5 on another Herrera kill.

Chico State, however, would prove too tough as Megan Cape would hammer four kills in the frame, staking CSUC to a comfortable 25-13 lead. Three Spainhour kills would bring the Toros to within single digits, but the last of Macias' kills would give the Wildcats match point at 29-19, and after a Nicole Hoffman (Clovis, CA/Fresno CC) kill and CSUC attack error, a Ruth Testman putaway from the last of Erica Brick's 50 assists would take game three, 30-22, and the match, 3-0.

Spainhour led the Toros with nine kills, while Herrera tallied seven off the bench. Macias led all hitters with 19 kills, while Cape contributed 10 kills and 10 digs, good for the game's sole double-double.

As a team, Chico State committed 10 service errors compared to just two service aces, but outhit the Toros .301 to .086 in the three-game sweep.

The Toros take to the road to battle Cal State L.A. and Cal State Bakersfield this week, before returning home to host Sonoma State and Cal State Monterey Bay on September 23 and 24, respectively.
