CARSON, Calif.--Sophomore forward Kei Kamara (Lawndale/Leuzinger HS) scored the go-ahead goal with less than a minute left to give Cal State Dominguez Hills an exciting 2-1 win over Seattle Pacific University Saturday afternoon at Toro Stadium.
Seattle Pacific, ranked No. 5 in the latest NSCAA/adidas national poll, falls to 4-1-1 while Cal State Dominguez Hills, ranked No. 12, remain undefeated and are now 4-0-0 to start the season.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Toros outshoot the visitor's 12-3, Jason Koza (Whittier/La Serna HS) put CSUDH up 1-0 taking a cross from inside the box from Carmelo Terranova (Saugus/Saugus HS) and tapping his shot to the back of the net at 48:35.
It looked like the Toros would escape with a 1-0 win, however, SPU equalized with just under three minutes left after a goal by Jeff Hallenbeck who chipped Toro goalie Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley HS) to the far post from 10 yards out.
It appeared as though the game would go to overtime, but Kamara scored his fourth goal of the year with forty-three seconds remaining to give CSUDH the 2-1 victory. Kamara took a nice touch pass from Francisco Corona (Paramount/Compton HS) and put his shot just inside the near post from eight yards away for the exciting finish.
Cal State Dominguez Hills outshot the Falcons 18-10 in the match and enjoyed a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks. The win extends the Toros win streak at home to 14 games.
CSUDH will now open up the California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule on the road at Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday. Kickoff is slated for 7 PM.
