CARSON, Calif.--Junior midfielder Candace Hearn (Whittier/Whittier HS) scored from 25 yards out in the 16th minute of action and the Toros defense made that goal stand up giving host Cal State Dominguez Hills a 2-0 shutout victory over Concordia University Friday afternoon at Toro Field.
CSUDH (1-0-0), ranked No. 19 in the NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II preseason poll, took a 2-0 lead midway through the second half when junior forward Rachele McDonald (Ventura/Buena HS), the 2004 California Collegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Player, took a nice pass from midfielder Melissa Sena (San Pedro/San Pedro HS) and drilled her first goal of the season into the back of the net.
The Toro defense made the two goals stand up holding on for the shutout win. CSUDH outshot the Eagles 16-11 in the match.
CSUDH returns to action hosting regional rival Western Washington University on Monday. First kick is slated for 12:30 p.m.
