Carson, CA -- The Toros men's soccer team seemed lethargic coming off Friday night's dominating performance as visiting Cal State Stanislaus played CSUDH to a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods Sunday afternoon at Toro Stadium.
With the draw, CSUDH moves to 10-1-2, 4-1-2 CCAA, while CSUS now stands at 5-8-1, 2-5-1 CCAA.
Both squads played evenly during the first 45 minutes as neither squad could get a clean look at the back of the net. After playing to a 0-0 draw in the first half, both teams increased their intensity as the pace picked up considerably after the break. CSUS' Dennis Wolfe got the Warriors on the board first at the 79:54 mark, taking a through ball from Nick Brammer and beating CSUDH goalkeep Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach, CA/Fountain Valley HS) to the far post, ending the Toros' string of five-consecutive games without a goal scored against.
The Warriors' momentum would be short-lived, however, as Jason Koza (Whittier, La Serna HS) would answer six minutes later with an unassisted blast from 35 yards out, beating CSUS goalie Jose Herrera to the top shelf.
During the overtime periods, the Toros accelerated their offense to the tune of 10 shots against the Warriors' one, but none of their attempts would hit paydirt. A physical contest, each team was flagged for 24 fouls, while the Toros enjoyed a 23-12 shot advantage.
Polak made three saves in goal while Herrera was credited with five.
CSUDH continues CCAA action as it hosts Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday, October 11, with first kick scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start in Toro Stadium.
