Carson, CA -- The Toros' offense tallied 32 shots compared to visiting Chico State's two attempts as CSUDH posted a dominating 2-0 win Friday afternoon at Toro Stadium. With the victory, CSUDH improves to 10-1-1, 4-1-1 CCAA, while CSUC falls to 3-6-2, 2-3-1.
After out-shooting the visitors 13-1 in the first half, reigning CCAA MVP Kei Kamara (Lawndale, CA/Leuzinger HS) got the Toros on the scoreboard at the 64:41 mark, connecting on a header to the far post from a perfect Jesse Graham (San Diego, CA/Pt. Loma HS) cross.
Nearly 20 minutes later, senior Jason Koza (Whittier, CA/La Serna HS) became “Jason on the spot” as he collected a Chico State turnover just 10 yards out, and blasted a rocket to the near post for a 2-0 lead.
The Toros offense continued to apply consistent pressure on CSUC goalkeep Scott Doty, which included a 19-1 shot advantage after the break, who was credited with 10 saves. Conversely, CSUDH's Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach, CA/Fountain Valley HS) made just one save between the posts in registering his fourth-consecutive shutout. CSUDH also gained the advantage in corner kicks, enjoying 11 to the Wildcats' none.
CSUDH next hosts Cal State Stanislaus Sunday afternoon, for a 3:00 p.m. scheduled first kick.
