LOS ANGELES -- Khadijah Greenwood scored 2:13 into the second overtime and Nikki Barrios made eight saves in goal as Cal State L.A. posted a 2-1 win over 17th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-3-1, 2-2-1 CCAA) on Tuesday night at Jesse Owens Track.
CSULA improves to 6-4-1, 3-3-1 CCAA, while CSUDH falls to 7-3-1, 2-2-1 CCAA. The win also vaults Cal State L.A. past both CSUDH and Cal Poly Pomona into second place in the CCAA's South Division.
The visiting Toros controlled play in the first half, getting on the board at the 13:45 mark as Rachele McDonald found the back of the net for CSUDH.
The game remained 1-0 until the 75:37 mark when CSULA's Amber DeSeriere took a pass from Ana Coria off an indirect kick and snuck it past CSUDH goalie Lisa Agramonte to tie the game at 1-1 and send the crosstown rivals into overtime.
CSUDH controlled the first overtime period as the Toros did not allow a single CSULA shot. However, Barrios came up with two big saves as the teams went to a second OT.
Cal State L.A. responded in the second extra period, forcing more of the action into their offensive end. Early in the second OT, CSULA's Tessa Troglia sent Greenwood up the middle on a thru-ball and Greenwood chipped it past Agramonte to score the game winner at the 102:13 mark.
Barrios stopped eight shots in goal for the Golden Eagles in the win while Agramonte had six saves for CSUDH. This marks the second time this season that Cal State L.A. has knocked off a ranked team at home in double overtime. The Golden Eagles upset then-20th ranked UC San Diego by a 1-0 score back on September 13.
The Toros are back in action next weekend with home matches on Friday and Sunday, against Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus, respectively.
