Seaside, Calif. - Revenge was the word of the day. Cal State Monterey Bay (3-11 CCAA, 11-14) took a hard fought 3-0 (30-25, 30-22, 30-22) win over Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-12 CCAA, 6-16) tonight. The Toros had beaten the Otters 3-2 in Carson on September 24.
Cal State Monterey Bay looked like it was ready to end the first game decisively with a 27-17 lead. The Toros got two kills from #Courtney Spainhour# who keyed a 6-0 run to close the gap to 27-23. At 29-25 Brittany Etchings (So./Poway, Calif./Poway HS) slammed the ball home to end the game.
In game two, CSUDH fought back from 12-5 deficit to make it 14-10. After that it was an Otter surge, then the Toros closing ground. Two service aces by #Sylvia Bonilla# closed the gap to 24-21 but an 8-1 run ended the Toros hopes.
CSUMB coasted in the third game for victory.
For Cal State Dominguez Hills, Spainhour had 15 kills and 10 digs, #Amber Chauff# had seven service aces and 11 digs and Bonilla had 17 digs.
For Cal State Monterey Bay, Etchings had 21 kills, 14 digs and hit .436, Danielle VandenBos (Jr./Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) had three service aces and 10 digs and Jen Holda (Sr./Tracy, Calif./Delta) had 23 digs for her 25th straight double-digit dig match.
