CARSON, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills scored three goals in a two minute span in the second half and went on for a 4-1 win against crosstown rival Cal State L.A. in California Collegiate Athletic Association action Wednesday afternoon at Toro Stadium.

With the win, CSUDH elevates its record to 13-4-2 overall and 8-3-2 in CCAA play. The loss knocks Cal State L.A. out of contention for the postseason CCAA Tournament. Their record now stands at 9-7-1 and 6-6-1 in league play.

The Toros and Golden Eagles battled through a scoreless first half. However, the Toros put on the heat early and often in the second period scoring three times in just a two minute span. Sophomore forward Tara Senff (Palos Verdes/So. Torrance HS) got the Toros on the board in the 58th minute with her eighth goal of the year. Senff took a ball from Rachele McDonald (Ventura/Buena HS) and knocked in a 30-yard blast to the upper right post.

Senior defender Katie Roche (Costa Mesa/Costa Mesa HS) scored the first of her two goals just 1:10 later heading home her shot off a corner kick by Candace Hearn (Whittier/Whittier HS). Under a minute later, Roche tallied her second goal when she stole a loose ball from CSULA goalie Nikki Barrios and lofted her shot to the far netting for a quick 3-0 lead.

The CSUDH offense wasn't finished when nearly three minutes later Michelle Sena (San Pedro/San Pedro HS) registered her third goal of the year off a defensive turnover at the top of the penalty box. Sena stole the ball, dribbled inside the box and beat Barrios one-on-one to the near post for a 4-0 margin.

Cal State L.A. averted the shutout after Tessa Troglia scored in the 76th minute. Troglia took a nifty cross inside the box and tapped her shot home for the final, 4-1.

Cal State Dominguez Hills controlled the game throughout outshooting the Golden Eagles 22-9, including a 15-5 margin in the second half.

Today closed out the 2005 home schedule for the Toros and marked the final home game for five seniors: Elizabeth Arreola (Redondo Beach/Redondo Union HS), Jessica Gatica (Costa Mesa/Mater Dei HS), Katie Roche, Michelle Sena and Darcy Hubbard (Torrance/N. Torrance HS).

CSUDH will close out the campaign with a matchup at Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday. First kick is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
