Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills junior Ashley Lawler (Newhall, CA/College of the Canyons) paced the Toros with 13 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, but visiting and No. 23-ranked Cal State Bakersfield used a decisive .328 to .164 hitting advantage to take the three-game match, 30-27, 30-23, 30-18, in front of a spirited Wednesday night crowd in the Torodome.

With the loss, CSUDH falls to 6-14, 2-10 CCAA while CSUB improves to 16-6, 9-3 CCAA.

The visitors jumped to an early game lead at 16-9 behind Morgan Reed and Lindsey Kramer, who each posted seven kills in the frame. The Toros would mount a comeback and narrow the deficit to 25-24 behind five kills apiece by Lawler and Kristin Sosa (Whittier, CA/El Rancho HS), and a timely service ace by senior libero Sylvia Bonilla (Los Angeles, CA/Fremont HS), but the 'Runners would outscore CSUDH 5-3 over the next eight points to take game one, 30-27.

Game two saw both teams play to an 8-8 tie in the early going, as Lawler contributed four kills in the game, but six kills by Reed and five by Kramer would bring momentum back the 'Runners' way, prompting them to a comfortable 26-21 cushion. After a CSUB service error, two Reed kills and a CSUDH attack error would give CSUB game point at 29-22, and after a putaway by Lawler, the final Reed kill in the frame would cement game two, 30-23.

After intermission, the visitors seized control early behind six-consecutive points from Erica Baldwin's serve. The Toros would get to within 9-4 on a CSUB service error, but the 'Runners would go on a 12-5 run to increase their advantage to 21-11, all but putting the game away.

Lawler mirrored game two's effort with four kills in the final game, but CSUB's Reed matched Lawler's output, and was bolstered by her team's .333 hitting percentage as the Roadrunners would score 9 of the game's final 16 points to take the game, 30-18, and the match, 3-0.

Nicole Hoffman (Clovis, CA/Fresno CC) chipped in seven kills for the Toros, while Courtney Spainhour (Redondo Beach, CA/El Camino CC) added a team-high 18 digs in the loss.

CSUB's Reed led all attackers with 17 kills and Kramer added 14, while the 'Runner defense boasted three players with double-figure digs, led by Mystie McNaughton's match-high 19 digs.

The Toros continue CCAA action Saturday evening, hosting cross-town rival and No. 12-ranked Cal State L.A. for a 7:00 p.m. scheduled first serve in the Torodome.
