CHICO, Calif. Freshman Lindsay Macias recorded her team-high eighth double-double, 17 kills and 12 digs, to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night in Acker Gym. Game scores were 30-21, 30-21, 30-17.
Chico State tallied its third straight win to improve to 10-8 overall, 5-5 in CCAA play. Dominguez Hills drops to 5-13, 1-9 in conference.
The Wildcats never trailed the entire match, with Dominguez Hill's best effort game in game one. The Toros kept the score tight, but Chico pulled away at 16-14 and ran off seven straight point to make it 23-14.
Chico opened game two with an 8-0 run behind the serving of Kelly Smiland and never let the Toros get closer than eight points in the game.
The 'Cats held a comfortable 17-3 lead in game three and although the Toros made a couple runs, they were unable to get back into the game.
Wildcat KeMacias led the Wildcat charge, hitting .394 in the process. Smiland had eight kills and Jamie Houle and setter Erica Brick added six apiece. Brick recorded 38 digs and libero Amanda Ley led all players with 16 digs.
For the Toros, Courtney Spainhour recorded nine kills and 12 digs and Amber Harder and Kayleigh Spratt shared the setting duties, tallying 13 and 11 assists, respectively. Libero Sylvia Bonilla led her team with 12 digs and Nicole Hoffman led all players with three blocks.
Chico State hosts first-place Cal Poly Pomona tomorrow night at 7:00. Dominguez Hills travels to Cal State Stanislaus.
