CARSON, Calif.--Sophomore forward Kei Kamara (Lawndale/Leuzinger HS) scored on a header in the 23rd minute of play to give Cal State Dominguez Hills all the scoring the defense would need as the Toros blanked defending NCAA Division II National Champion Seattle University Saturday afternoon at Toro Stadium, 2-0.
CSUDH, ranked No. 4 in this week's NSCAA/adidas national poll, elevate its record to 8-1-1. Seattle University falls to 7-4-0.
In the 23rd minute, Kamara took a nice cross by Mike Jimenez (Norco/Norco HS) from the right flank and headed home what turned out to be the game-winning shot from six yards away for his team-leading sixth goal of the year.
Alex Chursky had two chances in the second half to level the game, however, Toro goalie Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley HS) made two highlight saves from point-blank range to keep the shutout intact.
Junior midfielder Jesse Graham (San Diego/Point Loma HS) closed out the scoring in the 84th minute when he collected a rebound off the post and headed the ball to the back of the net from close range for the final score. Jason Koza (Whittier/La Serna HS) was credited with the assist after his shot from the left side hit the post.
On the day, CSUDH outshot the Redhawks 19-13 and held a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Polak made two saves in between the pipes to earn his seventh win of the year and third shutout. Nick Gargiulo allowed both goals for SU while making two saves.
