Warren Edmonson returns for his 21st season as head coach of the track and field program in 2023, after joining the program in 2000 and serving as the assistant coach for two seasons before taking over the reigns in 2002.
Edmonson brings a wealth of collegiate and international track and field experience. An Oakland native, Edmonson was a standout at UCLA, where he excelled at the 100 meter race, capturing the Pac 8 Championship and the NCAA Championship in that event, earning induction into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 2002 for his successes on the track during his three seasons as a Bruin.
After his collegiate career, Edmonson brought his talents to the indoor world circuit. In 1973, Edmonson set the world record in the 100 meters, followed by co-holding the world record in the 70 meters in 1974 Since his competitive days, Edmonson has turned his attention to coaching. He served as the head coach of the track and field program at St. Bernard's HS and for the Southern California Sports Club for seven years each. In his tenure at the Southern California Sports Club, Edmonson guided his athletes to seven national relay records and five appearances at the junior championships en route to club Coach of the Year honors for his achievements during those seasons.
As Toros head coach, 29 of the program’s 32 All-Americans have come under Edmonson’s tutelage.
