Smith was integral as the Toros picked up two wins to start the season for the first time since the 1995-96 campaign as he averaged 15 points, 7.5 rebounds and shot 57.1% from the field as CSUDH defeated Metro State 79-73 on Friday, and following that effort with a 72-67 win over St. Martin's the next day.

Against the Roadrunners, Smith shot 5-7 from the field and drained 2 of 3 foul shots en route to 12 points and a game-high 9 rebounds. The next day, Smith tallied a game-high 18 points and a team-best 6 boards as CSUDH took down the Saints on the final day of the CSULA Thanksgiving Classic.

Smith also swatted 4 shot attempts and swiped 4 passes in leading the Toros to two wins.
