Junior newcomer Chris Pham shot a 1-over 73 in today's final round of the UC San Diego-hosted SoCal Intercollegiate to give him a 2-over 218 for the tournament, earning him a share of medalist honors with Chico State All-American and reigning two-time CCAA Player of the Year Lee Gearhart.
Pham's win marks the first time since the 2011 season that a Toro has earned medalist honors in team competition since All-American Ryan Indovinda earned a pair of 1st-place finishes as a senior, taking home the top individual place at Cal State San Marcos' Cougar Invite and Cal State Bakersfield's Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate in February of that year.
The junior began the day in a four-way tie for first place after shooting rounds of 71 and 74 yesterday. Pham continued his solid play in today's final round with his 73, as his final 218 matched his lowest effort of the season that came at the Dennis Rose Invitational in late October. He excelled on the Par 5 holes by shooting 4-under, also draining 8 birdies and converting 37 pars, good for the third best total in that category.
