Cox led the Toros to a 3-0 mark to begin the season after averaging 13.7 points and 6 boards a game, including 2 wins over top 25-ranked teams.
Setting the tone after receiving an alley-oop pass for a dunk to open the scoring against No. 24-ranked BYU-Hawaii and hitting a free throw and nailing a triple to jump start a 15-0 run that put the game away against the Seasiders in the 27-point blowout, Cox was on fire against 3rd-ranked St. Cloud to open the GCU hosted Tip-Off Classic, nailing 60% of his shots en route to a game-high 19 points and nearly earning a double-double with 9 boards in the 78-65 victory.
The next night against Minnesota-Duluth, Cox tied for team-high honors with 14 points and chipped in 6 rebounds in the 65-60 win, again hitting 60% of his shots and sinking his last two free throws with under 3 minutes left in the nail-biter to help secure the win.
The senior leader started all 3 games en route to shooting 58% from the field, and pulled down 18 boards including a team-best 9 on the offensive end as CSUDH took down two national giants to start the year with 3 wins.
