In a do-or-die series to close the regular season, Emiley McEwen displayed why she is the team’s most lethal offensive threat after leading CSUDH to a sweep over San Francisco State with 5 hits in 10 at-bats, 6 walks and 2 sacrifice flies as the Toros clinched their first-ever berth into the CCAA Championship Tournament.

Needing a sweep on Friday to give itself a chance the next day, McEwen was only given 3 at-bats on the day, but made the most of them as she drove in five runs in breaking open a close game in the opener with a 3-run blast that gave the Toros the win after a sacrifice fly opened the CSUDH scoring in the bottom of the first before her second sacrifice fly of the day ended the game via the run rule.  In Friday’s nightcap, McEwen drew three walks as CSUDH routed the Gators in another 5-inning contest.

Needing just one win to clinch a berth on Saturday, McEwen paced the team with 3 hits in the opener and scored the team’s first run, while belting a game-tying 2 run blast and again drawing 3 walks, this time on 14 pitches, in the nightcap, scoring the winning run after walking on 5 pitches.

The Anaheim native reached base 11 times in 16 trips to the plate, adding 2 sacrifice flies that led the Toros to the sweep.  Additionally, McEwen tallied nearly20% of the team’s total bases, 30% of the team’s RBI, and 67% of its home runs, also boasting a 1.100 slugging percentage.
