Neka Mixon, a 5-10 guard/forward from Long Beach, California and NCAA Division II All-American candidate, only added to her prowess in the CCAA this past weekend as she averaged 17.0 points p/g and 11 rebounds p/g on the weekend in a 48-36 win at Sonoma State while the following night she did all she could before the Toros succumbed to host Humboldt State in a 71-57 loss to wrap up regular play in the 2008-09 season.
In game one against Sonoma State, Mixon tallied 22 points and 10 boards for her fifth double-double of the season. She also added three steals and assists apiece to rally the Toros offense. The following night, though suffering a loss to Humboldt State, Mixon added 12 points and boards for back-to-back double-doubles, the first time she has done so all season.
Only a sophomore, Mixon has secured herself as one of the best players in the CCAA after her first year of competition at the collegiate level. Averaging 16.7 points p/g and a total of 451 this season, Mixon is the CCAA’s second leading scorer while her .458 field goal percentage has her at number six in that regard. She is also eighth in rebounding with 7.3 p/g and a total of 196, fourth in steals with 2.3 p/g and 61 total and seventh in blocks with 0.9 p/g and 23 total.
