Bret Montgomery, a 6-6 junior, right-handed pitcher from Thousand Oaks, Calif. has already established himself as the CCAA’s premier pitcher after garnering a record of 2-0 to start of the 2009 season. Thus far he is the only pitcher in conference to have two wins recorded to his name after a 15-2 defeat of Cal State L.A., followed by a 5-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona.
Opening up the season for the Toros on the mound he allowed only on runs and four hits in his 5.0 innings pitched, all while striking out six of his batters. In his second game he nearly threw for the complete with 7.o innings pitched to allow again only one run and seven hits, while striking out six.
Now carrying a .75 ERA, he leads the conference in innings pitched, which when compared to his ERA, nearly puts him as the lowest in the CCAA. Thus far his 10 strike-outs is enough to place him as the second-place Ks leader in the CCAA.
With an overall record of 6-2, the Toros will next see action as they travel to Cal State L.A. on Tuesday, February 10 as non-conference play continues. First pitch is set at 2:00pm.
