Smith was the foundation from which the Toros took over the top spot in the CCAA Conference, overcoming a cheap shot in the first two minutes of the weekend to lead CSUDH to a sweep over Humboldt State and Sonoma State this past weekend.
 
In the opener against the Jacks, Smith literally took one on the chin for the team, restraining himself enough to stay in the game where he scored 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor as CSUDH raced out to a 35-58 lead at the half and turned it into a 69-52 blowout win to claim the top stop in the conference.
 
One night later, Smith was nearly perfect as he connected for 7-of-9 from the floor to tally 15 points, adding 3 blocks, 2 boards and a steal in the dominating 79-56 win over the Seawolves to keep the Toros one game up on both CSUSB and HSU.
 
Overall, Smith shot 57.1 percent from the field as he averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1.5 steals against arguably the toughest combination of travel partner opponents to give the Toros sole possession of first place to close the first half of conference play.
