Hernandez was solid in the Toros two wins at the Grand Canyon Thanksgiving Tournament last week, as clutch free throw shooting against Fort Lewis College in the opener and all around solid play led the Toros to a convincing win against host Grand Canyon one night later.
Against the Skyhawks, Hernandez drained 11 of 14 shots from the line and on the boards with seven as CSUDH held off a late rally to take a 74-69 win. Hernandez was so clutch down the stretch that he sank 6 of the Toros final 10 free throws under 3 minutes left to keep FLC within arm's length, giving CSUDH the 5-point win.
One night later, Hernandez did it all at the point, draining 6 of 8 shots from the field, including his only free throw attempt, pulling down 4 rebounds, and dishing 5 assists without a single turnover. Hernandez's deft touch from the floor sparked the Toros to a 50.9 shooting percentage for the night as CSUDH won its fifth straight to start the season.
On the weekend, Hernandez shot 53.8% from the field and 80% from the foul stripe in averaging 13.0 points per game, all while pulling down an average of 5.5 rebounds a contest (the second highest total on the team), with 4.5 assists in the 2 wins.
