Sophomore Bret Montgomery has handed to ball to open the four-game series against the Coyotes, had previously swept the Toros in a non-conference three-game series, and responded by tossing his third complete game of the young season.

Montgomery tossed a gem, allowing two runs, one of which was earned while scattering six hits over nine innings while striking out seven batters against two walks.

The junior was in such command all game that he never faced more than five batters in any inning while setting he Coyotes down in order in the last three innings.

This marks the fourth-straight game in which Montgomery has fanned at least that many batters and the fourth time this season that he has allowed two or less walks.
