2024-25 Men's Basketball Recruiting Class

Men's Basketball's 2024-25 Roster Has Six New Additions

CARSON – Fresh off their first appearance in 13 years at the NCAA Division II West Regionals, 2023-24 CCAA Coach of the Year Steve Becker has announced six new additions to the Toros roster.

Sporting burgundy and gold in the upcoming 2024-25 season are JT Tan, a 6-foot-8 center from Lehigh University; Adam Afifi, a 6-foot-9 forward transferring from Chico State; Isaiah Bernard-Lopez, a 6-foot-5 guard from Foothill High School; Tomi Adesiji, a 6-foot-2 guard transferring from Riverside City College; Luke Lin, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Taipei, Taiwan; and Promise Madubugwu, a 7-foot center from Gardena High School.

Our staff is very excited to build on last seasons success. We return 10 players from the league championship team and are very excited about what the newcomers bring to our group. We return three starters in, Jeremy Dent-Smith (1st Team All-American/ CCAA POY), DJ Guest (2x All-CCAA), Alex Garcia (2x All-CCAA) and guys who understand how to win like Jayden Winfrey and Za-Ontay Boothman. We are excited to welcome Jordan Hilstock (All-CCAA in ’22-’23) and David Cheatom back from injury (each of them redshirted last season due to season ending injuries), both of them guard at a high level and are dangerous in their own ways offensively. We are a veteran group with a great deal of experience, and we’re excited to see what we can accomplish together.”

We needed to add skill and depth to our interior immediately, and I feel like we’ve done that with guys who complement each other in JT Tan and Adam Afifi. Isaiah Bernard-Lopez, Tomi Adesiji, Luke Lin and Promise Madubugwu will develop within our program and we are excited about what they add to our group, as well.

In a day in age where players transfer at such an unprecedented rate, we are fortunate to have this many returners who are committed to each other and raising the bar for CDUDH men’s basketball.

JT Tan
We are thrilled JT chose to use his final year of eligibility back home & in a Toro uniform. JT is a high character young man who is all about the winning process and adds a great deal of skill to our post play. He has the ability to score around the rim, is extremely unselfish and a very good passer, and really knows how to use his size to create advantages on the glass. JT won a state championship with Alex Garcia in high school, playing for the legendary Harvey Kitani at Rolling Hills Prep, and we hope to build on that success here at DH.

Adam adds experience and reliability to our frontcourt. He is a winner & consistently produced for an NCAA tournament team, on his way to being named 2nd Team All-CCAA. Adam’s ability to pick & pop while also scoring in the interior, combined with his consistency on the glass and ability to alter shots around the rim, are all valuable skill sets we were looking for from this position. We expect Adam to be one of the better players at his position in the CCAA, and we’re excited to have him.

Isaiah’s versatility and unselfishness is going to fit very well into our style of play. He is an incredible athlete who is really dynamic and skilled as a playmaker in the open court. We also think Isaiah has the ability to be a really good defender as he develops. Isaiah has been well coached by Yousof Etemadi at Foothill, and he has a chance to be a special player in the CCAA.

Tomi Adesiji
Tomi has been incredibly well coached by one of the best coaches regardless of level, in Coach Phil Mathews, at RCC. Tomi is a high character young man who starred alongside Jeremy Dent-Smith at local Serra High School, before heading to RCC. Tomi can really shoot the basketball; he has great length and is a strong on ball defender. Tomi led his RCC team in scoring while maintaining a 3.8 GPA. Tomi is a valuable addition to our squad and we cant wait to get to work with him.

We are really excited to have Luke join our basketball family. Luke comes to us by way of Taipei, Taiwan. He has been incredibly well coached by coach Roman Huang. I got the chance to evaluate him while he was playing in a local AAU tournament, after realizing we had a connection through legendary DH coach, David Yanai. While evaluating Luke, I was impressed with his basketball IQ and the poise he demonstrated. He can score in a variety of ways, he’s tough on both sides of the ball and comes to Carson with a great deal of international experience. We are looking forward to seeing Luke develop in our program.

Promise Madubugwu
We are excited to have Promise develop in our program. He comes to us from local Gardena High School and he has a great deal of potential. Promise has a toughness about him and does not shy away from contact. With his size, he has a chance to be a great rebounder, alter shots and finish at a high level in the paint. His best basketball is ahead of him and I’m glad he chose CSUDH.
