Presidential Award Nominees

Cal State Dominguez Hills Athletics is excited to announce the continuation of our annual student-athlete end-of-the-year awards, featuring the Jennifer Winkelspecht, Mike Sharp Most Inspirational, Male and Female Athlete of the Year and the Presidential awards. Throughout the month of June we will introduce the nominees for each award and will announce all winners after. The head coach of each program nominated their student-athlete for each award.

The following awards will be announced:

June 8: Jennifer Winkelspecht Award

June 10: Mike Sharp Most Inspirational Award

June 15: Male Athlete of the Year

June 17: Female Athlete of the Year

June 22: Presidential Award

June 24: Winners Announced

PRESIDENTIAL AWARD NOMINEES

 

The Presidential Award, formerly known as the Dr. Richard Butwell Award, is given to the student-athlete who goes above and beyond the call of duty not only in the classroom and in competition, but also who is active in the community and proud to represent Cal State Dominguez Hills.

On the Court

  • 10.8 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game
  • Team finished 14-15 overall, 10-12 in conference play. Qualified for the CCAA Tournament.

 

In the Classroom

  • CCAA All-Academic
  • Earned cardinal status (3.0-3.49 grade-point average) on the Cardinal & Gold Wall.

 

In the Community

  • Member of beach clean-up organization “We Clean Beaches”.
  • Goes to ASL social events, a meetup for deaf people and those that can sign, and interacts with the deaf community.
  • Volunteers as a youth basketball instructor, teaching the game to kids ages 6-14.

On the Field

  • Recorded 1 goal and 2 assists
  • Played in all 18 games with 16 starts logging 
  • Team went 8-8-2 overall, 5-4-1 in conference play. Qualified for the CCAA Tournament

 

In the Classroom

  • CCAA All-Academic
  • Earned gold status (3.5-3.99 grade-point average) on the Cardinal & Gold Wall.

 

In the Community

  • Member of CSUDH Pre-Health Society, volunteering at health events on- and off-campus
  • Volunteers as a soccer coach in camps, mainly for children from impoverished areas, in her home country of Finland

  • Scored three goals, all in one game against Cal State East Bay
  • Played in 11 games with four starts

  • Earned gold status (3.5-3.99 grade-point average) on the Cardinal & Gold Wall.

  • Hit .297 with 11 hits
  • Team had a record of 16-8 overall, 9-5 in conference play, before season was abruptly cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

In the classroom

  • Earned cardinal status (3.0-3.49 grade-point average) on the Cardinal & Gold Wall.

 

In the community

  • Volunteered at YMCA National Cleanup, cleaning trails and hiking areas
  • Helped at the Angels RBI Program, a youth baseball camp
  • Organized canned food drive and beach cleanups for SAAC
