Dr. Mildred García Honors Women's Soccer National Runner-Ups

CARSON, Calif. -- Still riding the wave of success after the completion of the 2009 season, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team was honored for its achievement and representation of the University by CSUDH President Dr. Mildred García and other members of the Toros administration at a dinner ceremony Monday night, held at the President's house.

Speaking not only of the season's accolades, García honored the team as a point of pride for CSUDH and the local community itself.

Some of the accolades that García touched on were the recent All-American awards - Jessica Murphy and Paige Peel, the first All-Americans for women's soccer since 2003 - as well as the late run that brought the Toros to their first championship title appearance since 1991.

After introducing themselves to President García and hearing her speak, the team gathered around the University House Christmas tree for a group photo to lend an indelible memory to the event.

The ceremony, held in the CSUDH University House, also was a time for the student-athletes' parents and significant others to come together and share in the team's success.
