Twins Tab 3-Time All-American Kamran Young in 21st Round of MLB Draft

NEW YORK -- Three-time All-American slugger Kamran Young was selected in the 21st round by the Minnesota Twins on the third and final day of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft as the 620th overall pick over the three-day event.

Young joins fellow senior Kevin Brown as the two Toros selected for the draft, with Brown going to the Los Angeles Dodgers in yesterday's ninth round.

"It felt great to hear my name called, and I am excited to have the opportunity to play professional ball," begins Young, obviously ecstatic.  "It's a dream come true and I am going to make the best of it and represent Cal State Dominguez Hills well at the professional level.

"I couldn't have done this without the special group of guys we had this season, and I want to thank my teammates and coaches for that!"

Young is the third Toro to be drafted by Minnesota in the past three years, joining former Toros Ivory Thomas and Carlos Avila, who both were taken in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft.

The Santa Clarita native completed a remarkable and history-making senior campaign, earning a 1st-team Daktronics All-America nod, and 2nd-team All-America selections from ABCA/Rawlings and the NCBWA.  These honors followed Young earning Daktronics West Region, NCBWA West Region, ABCA West Region and CCAA Most Valuable Player nods.

"Kamran Young is an exceptional hitter who is capable of playing a number of positions at the next level," begins CSUDH interim head coach Tyler Wright.  "As also the hardest working player I have ever coached, Kamran was a team captain who led our team to its first playoff appearance in five years, and I am so proud of him and wish him the best of luck."

Young ranked 20th in walks, 25th in home runs, 26th in on-base percentage, 34th in slugging percentage and 38th in home runs per game in the NCAA following the regular season, taking it up a notch in league play by leading the league in batting average, home runs, OB% and SLG%, placing 2nd in RBI, 3rd in walks and triples, 4th in runs and 5th in hits.

Young also led the team with 12 multi-RBI contests, including a 5RBI effort to open the four-game set at CS San Bernardino to close the regular season that included two home runs, also tying for the team lead with 20 multi-hit contests and boasting a team-best 18-game hit streak which he extended over the first two games of the league tournament.

The Criminal Justice major also earned his degree earlier this month and walked with his fellow graduates at the StubHub Center during CSUDH's Commencement ceremonies.
