No. 5 Humboldt State Comes to Carson for NCAA Super Regional This Weekend

CARSON -- The NCAA Championships Committee announced tonight that No. 6 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills will host national No. 5 and top-seeded Humboldt State in the NCAA Super Regional this weekend for one of eight berths into the NCAA Championships, scheduled for May 23-27, in Salem, Virginia.

The two teams will square off in a best-of-three series on Toro Diamond in Carson, on Friday and Saturday.

Cal State Dominguez Hills was forced into an "if necessary" game today by West 2 host Dixie State, but the Toros staged a 7-run, 5th-inning rally capped by an Adriana Sanchez grand slam to punch their ticket to the next round and move to 37-22 overall.

The Lumberjacks, meanwhile, advanced after finishing off Saint Martin's, 5-3, in the first round finale on Sunday, and will take their 50-12 record and 14-game winning streak to Carson.

Commencement activities scheduled Saturday in Arcata proved the deciding factor in the NCAA Committee's decision to award hosting duty to the Toros.

Humboldt State posted a 5-1 record against the Toros, the only loss a 2-1 decision at the Tournament of Champions hosted by Cal State Stanislaus in early April en route to CSUDH's TOC Title, the first in the program's history.

Game times will be announced on Monday morning, and will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network here.
