Jimenez Named Daktronics West Region Pitcher of the Year

Sanchez named to 1st-team, Brenner 2nd-team

SAN FRANCISCO -- Continuing her award-filled senior campaign, ace pitcher Stephanie Jimenez was named the Daktronics West Region Pitcher of the Year in a vote of Sports Information Directors from the West Region.

Now with four 1st-team All-Region honors under her belt, Jimenez was joined on the 1st-team by junior slugging third baseman Adriana Sanchez who earned her second 1st-team All-Region honor, with junior Brittany Brenner earning 2nd-team honors as a utility player, the first in her career.

Jimenez led the Toros to their ninth NCAA Division NCAA Division II National Softball Tournament appearance, their second consecutive appearance. In the circle, Jimenez boasts a 1.40 earned run average, ranking in the top 20 nationally and first in the CCAA, with a 26-10 record.

In 42 appearances, Jimenez has pitched 264.1 innings, grabbing nine shutouts and picking up one save. She has struck out 225 batters, holding her opponents to a .207 average against her.

Jimenez earned All-CCAA first team recognition and was named the Worth/CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week four times during the regular season as the holder of CSUDH's career records in wins, strikeouts, saves, shutouts and innings pitched.

Sanchez, meanwhile, led the league in hits per game and RBI per game, and finished 2nd in slugging percentage, runs, hits, RBI, home runs, total bases and runs per game during the regular season, earning a 2nd-team All-CCAA honor.

The San Fernando native set the CSUDH single-season home run record with 18, smashing the previous record of 11 set a few years ago, and has 25 multi-hit and 16 multi-RBI games as well as a team-best 12-game hit streak and one CCAA Player of the Week nod.

Brenner, who also earned honorable mention All-CCAA honors earlier this month, started all 58 games played and ranks 6th in walks in the CCAA.  She has enjoyed 11 multi-hit and 7 multi-RBI games and was named to the Desert Stinger All-Tournament team after finishing the regular season 2nd on the team in home runs, RBI and on-base percentage, and 3rd in batting average, runs, triples, hits and slugging percentage.

With their 1st-team selections, Jimenez and Sanchez now are eligible for All-America consideration, which will be announced later this month.
