Ryan Indovina Finishes U.S. Amateur Four Strokes Away From Match Play

Ryan Indovina came four strokes shy from qualifying for U.S. Amateur match play
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -- Making history by becoming the first Cal State Dominguez Hills golfer to qualify for the U.S. Amateur, All-American Ryan Indovina fell just four strokes shy from qualifying for match play after shooting a 10-over 153 at the Chambers Bay Golf Course over the first two days of competition.

Jeff Wilson led all amateurs with a -7 over the first two rounds, with just six golfers coming in under par, six breaking even, and 11 shooting 1-over amongst the 312 total competitors.

Overall, Indovina managed six birdies and eight bogeys, with four double-bogeys in the two days, including three on day two.  He shot 6-over on the par 3s and 7-over on the par 4s, but was 3-under on the par 5s for the tournament en route to a +3 on day one and +7 yesterday.

Just making it to the U.S. Amateur, however, proved an incredible experience in itself, and gives Indovina high hopes and tons of confidence entering his senior season as a Toro.

Indovina's accomplishment followed a stellar inaugural season in Carson after claiming 1st-team PING All-Region honors prior to his All-America accolade, and 1st-team All-CCAA and the CCAA Newcomer of the Year after the regular season's conclusion, with the latter marking the first-ever Newcomer of the Year honor for a CSUDH golfer.

Establishing himself as the top golfer on the Carson campus throughout the 2010 season and one of the top golfers in the league, Indovina also earned the CCAA Golfer of the Week honor after his debut tournament.

In seven meets, he placed four top 10 finishes and two top 20, including medal honors in a dual match against UC San Diego, two runner-up finishes and a third-place finish, as well as one CCAA Player of the Week honor.  He averaged just over par in 19 rounds played entering the Super Regional, carding a low 18 score of 67, a low 36 score of 140 and a low tournament tally of 210.

As an individual at the NCAA Regionals, Indovina came within one stroke of qualifying for the NCAA National Golf Championships, finishing with a total of 220 and in a 6-way tie for ninth place.

Indovina's honor is the third all-time in the golf program's history, following Pat Burke and Mack Smith, both of whom earned All-America status during their collegiate careers.
