Angel and McEwen Named to Daktronics All-Region 2nd-Team

Amber Angel (L) and Emiley McEwen both earned Daktronics 2nd-team All-Region honors
SAN FRANCISCO -- Coming within just one win from qualifying for the NCAA postseason, senior Amber Angel (left) and sophomore Emiley McEwen both were tabbed 2nd-team Daktronics All-Region selections, it was announced by the regional coordinator.

McEwen, who was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) Player of the Year, adds yet another award to her collection of post-season honors only halfway through her Toro career, while Angel, who was named a 1st-team All-CCAA selection, concludes her Toro career with her first All-Region honor.

From Anaheim Hills, McEwen claimed the program's second-ever CCAA MVP award and first since 2005, starting all 54 games at shortstop en route to 1st-team All-CCAA and CCAA Player of the Week honors.  She led the NCAA in sacrifice flies and was 37th RBI per game, while establishing the CSUDH records for home runs and sacrifice flies both in a season and a career.

McEwen also led the CCAA in RBI and sacrifice flies, was second in home runs, 5th in slugging percentage, 9th in hits and 10th in batting average, while enjoying 18 multi-hit and 15 multi-RBI contests.

Angel, meanwhile, earned her first All-Region accolade after earning her first 1st-team All-CCAA selection and starting all 54 games at first base.  Also earning one CCAA Player of the Week award, she was 5th in the CCAA in on-base percentage, home runs and walks, and 6th in slugging percentage and RBI.

The Los Angeles native has enjoyed
16 multi-hit and 11 multi-RBI contests, including one 4-RBI effort vs No. 19 Sonoma State in opening round of CCAA Tournament, en route to leading the team in walks, finishing 2nd in home runs, RBI and doubles, and 3rd in batting average and hits.

Angel was given a free pass at least twice in six different contests, including 2 games with three walks apiece.

The Toros, who finished the 2010 campaign at 31-19, 23-13, return McEwen and two sophomore pitchers in 2011, looking to earn a spot in the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2008.
