Parker Ends 2010 Indoor Track & Field Season With Disappointing Finish

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico -- A third All-America nod just wasn't in the cards as Chanel Parker competed as the lone Toro in the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships to tally a time of 8.73 in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries to place her at No. 9, ending any chance of competing in the finals.

"I wouldn't be upset if I did my best but I feel that I could and should have done better and doing my best is what matters to me," a reflective Parker said after the race.

The time echoes the true individualism of track & field as Parker has consistently improved her finish in all of her events before a bad start would bring her 2010 indoor season to a close.

"I am only going to do my best from now on," said Parker.  "After the bad start I was hoping I would get a second chance in the finals but I missed it.  Now I can only do my best in outdoor and keep improving."

Top honors in the race went to Indira Spence of Adams State College with a time of 8.23 while 2009 defending champion Shermaine Williams of Johnson C. Smith University came in second at 8.27.

Despite the poor start, Parker gave it her all for 60-meters, finishing just 0.06 seconds short of besting No. 8 runner Letecia Taylor of Southern Connecticut State at 8.68.

Already a two-time All-American after an impressive first year as a Toro, Parker will guide her team as the 2010 outdoor season resumes next week at the USC Trojan Invitational on March 19th and 20th.
