Linksters Sit in Third Place After Day One of Cougar Invitational

SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Making an early case as the league's top newcomer, transfer Ryan Indovina shot a 2-under 142 after day one of the Cal State San Marcos-hosted Cougar Invitational, putting him in 2nd and the Toros in 3rd place with the third and final round set for tomorrow morning.

Indovina shot par over the morning session, and bettered that performance with a 2-under 70 in round two to give him a 142 after day one, putting him in second place, one shot behind day one leader Carl Stjarnfalt of Cal Baptist--who blistered round two with a 6-under 66--and one shot ahead of Point Loma Nazarene's Ryan Ellerbrock, with the final round set for tomorrow.

Kenny Roberts (pictured) finished the first day tied for 11th after his 147 (71-76), with Cavin McCall (T17th, 77-72-149), Shaun Engle (T46th, 81-79-160) and Keith Johnson (T55th, 83-81-164) rounding out the Toro quintet.

As a team, the Toros sit in third with a team total of 598 after day one, 16 strokes behind Holy Names University and 12 behind Cal Baptist.

Other CCAA schools in contention include CS San Bernardino in 4th and UC San Diego in 7th place.
