Munoz, Ramos and Turoldo's 1st-team Selections Lead Five Toros Named to All-CCAA Teams

WALNUT CREEK -- Seniors Alex Munoz and Diego Turoldo, along with junior newcomer Ernie Ramos, all earned 1st-team All-CCAA honors to lead a total of five Toros named to All-CCAA teams, it was announced earlier by the California Collegiate Athletic Association.  With CSUDH's three 1st-teamers, the Toros tied for the most 1st-team recipients with CS San Bernardino.

Two sophomores in keeper Markus Dickerson and forward Andre Turoldo also picked up honorable mention All-CCAA honors to round out the five Toros selected.

Munoz enjoyed a stellar campaign after missing the first eight games of the season, tallying 5 goals and an assist in just 11 games played.  The senior midfielder helped solidify the midfield upon his arrival as the Toros went 7-3-1 in his games played.  The Corona native enjoyed a goal in three-consecutive games in mid-October, and a two-goal effort in the 5-0 drubbing of Cal Poly Pomona during CSUDH's Homecoming festivities.

Turoldo enjoyed a breakout senior campaign with 5 goals and 5 assists, including two game-winners on a perfect 2-for-2 penalty kick attempts.  He was one of only two Toros to start all 19 games played, and remains an integral part of CSUDH's opportunity to defend its CCAA crown, which begins tomorrow.

Ramos proved his worth early on as a replacement for two-time NSCAA Player of the Year Kevin Gallaugher, who finished his eligibility last season.  Ramos started 14 of 17 games played, helping the Toros to 11 shutouts and 3 games in which they allowed a single score.

Dickerson and the younger Turoldo both have had banner sophomore campaigns thus far, with Dickerson playing a part in 10 shutouts and Turoldo leading the team in goals, assists and points.

Other top honorees were Chico State forward Ferid Celosmanovic (Most Valuable Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Year), Jared Kukura of UC San Diego (Most Valuable Defensive Player), Sonoma State forward Taylor Varnadore (Freshman of the Year) and Noah Kooiman of Cal State San Bernardino (Coach of the Year).

The Toros, ranked 24th by the NSCAA and currently 13-4-2, 10-4-2 CCAA, will take on Chico State in the first round of the CCAA Tournament tomorrow at 1:30 pm, looking to avenge an earlier season 3-1 defeat in Chico.  Additionally, as the No. 4 seed in the NCAA West Region, CSUDH should secure a berth in the NCAA postseason playoffs with one win in this weekend's league tournament.

The announcement of the teams qualifying will take place on Monday at 4:00 pm PST.
