CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills cross country team was all smiles this morning as a group took time to volunteer at CSUDH's Child Development Center (CDC) in partnership with the Jumpstart program.

Four runners, Brigette Fernandez, Reyna Samaniego, Rebecca Caracoza and Julia Wilson took a few hours out of their day to spend time at the CDC, helping out the children with arts and crafts projects.

Aside from children of CSUDH faculty and staff, the squad was also given the opportunity to serve children of local schools.

Jumpstart is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. To support this mission, they bring college students and community volunteers together with preschool children in low-income communities for a full school year of individualized mentoring and tutoring.

The program was brought to the Carson campus this year in collaboration with the CDC and Assiciated Students and will run through Spring of 2011 as CSUDH has committed to providing 300 hours of service to the program.
