Kevin Ritter Leads Toros on Final Day of Elco Intercollegiate


Bakersfield, CA -- Senior Kevin Ritter fired a team-best 76 on the second and final day of the Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate, hosted by Cal State Bakersfield, to place 55th as the Toros finished 17th as a team out of 19 teams competing.

Ritter, who shot par in yesterday's late round, ended up with a +11 overall, four strokes better than teammates Cavin McCall and Kenneth Roberts, who ended their day with a 231, 15 shots back of the individual winner Tain Lee from Claremont Mudd Scripps, who ended the tournament where he began, atop the leader board.

Day three fielded higher than normal rounds, wtih just three golfers shooting under par, and seven shooting par.

Nova Southeastern University ran away with the team title by shooting a 14-under 850, with Sonoma State finishing a distant second at 1-over 865.

Though finishing with a 62-over 926, the Toros were just 11 strokes behind 16th place finisher Notre Dame de Namur, 13 shots behind 15th place Cal Lutheran and 17 behind Academy of Art and St. Martin's, which tied for 13th place overall.

Led by runner-up Sonoma State, the CCAA made an impressive showing with four schools finishing in the top 10, including CS Stanislaus in 5th, CS Monterey Bay in 6th and Chico State in 8th.

Rounding out the Toro quintet were Keith Johnson (80-80-77-237) in 81st and Sal del Toro (80-88-84-252) in 96th, with individual player Ben Araya (81-78-82-241) coming in 90th.

The Toros resume action next week at the Smee Builders Invitational, hosted by Point Loma University.
