Toros SAAC Converts Split at Junior Achievement Sponsored Bowl-A-Thon

Carson, CA -- Over 65 Cal State Dominguez Hills student-athletes, coaches and administrators encompassing all 11 sports made their way to Cal Bowl in Lakewood last night for the first annual “Junior Achievement/Toro Bowl-A-Thon,” a fund-raising event sponsored by Junior Achievement to benefit Junior Achievement of Southern California and the Cal State Dominguez Hills Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

In what is the first of many activities to pair the two organizations, participating bowlers sought sponsonships for their bowling extravaganza, with those tax-deductible sponsorships being split evenly between JA and CSUDH's SAAC.  In addition to the Toro bowlers, CSUDH was joined by the Doubletree Hotel Carson Civic Plaza, one of its corporate sponsors, after the hotel made its own significant contribution to the event.

JA Worldwide is the world's largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.  Junior Achievement programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace.  Students put these lessons into action and learn the value of contributing to their communities.

JA's unique approach allows volunteers from the community to deliver our curriculum while sharing their experiences with students.  Embodying the heart of JA, our 287,000 classroom volunteers transform the key concepts of our lessons into a message that inspires and empowers students to believe in themselves, showing them they can make a difference in the world.

“With the participation and the enthusiasm we had, the 'Bowl-A-Thon' was one of the best events we've had all year,” begins SAAC President and volleyball/track and field student-athlete Travette Pettigrew.  “I think we've just tapped the surface of what we can do together with Junior Achievement, and I'm excited about our plans for next year.”
