Sid Lopez

Title: Assistant Head / Pitching Coach

Now in his fourth season as Murphy Su’a’s right hand man, Lopez brings nearly 25 years of experience to the field, including a recent stint for the Chaminade College Prep varsity baseball team.  Through his 17 years coaching at Chaminade, many of Lopez’s players have advanced to the professional level including Dan Runzler (San Francisco Giants), Jim Rapoport (NY Mets), Cody Haerther (Toronto Blue Jays), Ollie Linton (Arizona), and Gabe Crecion, drafted by the Yankees and also UCLA’s starting tight end.

In his playing days, Lopez was a starting pitcher at Grant High School.  Upon graduation Lopez spent two years at L.A. Valley College before transferring to Eastern Oregon University.  His experience encompasses numerous playing and coaching opportunities including co-head coach for Saints Baseball, which became two-time NBC Western Regional Champions and saw action at the NBC World Series.

Born in Havana, Cuba, and married to Susan Lopez, the couple has five children who have all graduated from higher learning institutions: Lisa (Harvard), Brian (Univ. of Washington ), Scott (Culinary Institute of New York), Chris (UC Irvine), and Julie (Arizona State University). Lopez and his wife currently reside in West Hills.

Says Coach Su'a:
"Sid Lopez serves as my head assistant coach and has the toughest job on the staff as pitching coach.  He has a passion for the work and loves the challenge.  Our team success is directly affected by the success of our pitching staff and our recent history proves the work of Coach Lopez.  He’s a former long time head coach so I rely on his experience and input in many situations."
